AMENDMENT TO THE LAW RELATING TO THE ISSUE OF DRIVING LICENCES WHICH WILL AFFECT THOSE WITH DIABETES

Diabetes Jersey has been liaising with the Driver and Vehicles Standards Department (DVS) for some time with regard to how new legislation, which takes effect in October, will affect those with diabetes.

In the main. it affects those who are insulin-dependent, have a physical disability (but not limited to a lower or upper amputation) or sight impairment.  It will also allow those with Type 1 to apply for and hold a Heavy Goods Licence for the first time.

In due course, and prior to the legislation taking effect, Diabetes Jersey will be organising a joint presentation to be delivered by DVS officers and Dr David Hopkins. Once this has been arranged, a further notice will be published. This will provide an opportunity for those who will be affected to understand the implications of the n new law.
