Early Notice of Annual General Meeting

The AGM for Diabetes Jersey will take place at St Pauls Centre, commencing at 6pm on Wednesday 15th July.

Members who have changed their contact details or moved address during the past 12 months, but who have not advised the Membership Secretary of this are requested to provide an update.

This can be achieved by sending an email to ‘carmeloc2201@gmail.com’

A formal Meeting Pack will be sent out to Members during the latter part of June

Update: Having surpassed his original £2000 target, Richard has raised nearly £4000 and has set a new target of £5000!

Richard is continuing with his preparation to take part in the London Marathon on Sunday, 26th April, and as part of this, he will be running on a treadmill at the following venues to raise further funds to help him reach his new target.

🏃‍♂️Part of his ongoing training now includes running in his “sugar cube” along both main roads and lanes, so look out for him.

The sugar cube does have a QR code to scan should you wish to donate to his remarkable fundraising effort

Any person diagnosed with any form of diabetes can register to attend with one partner/friend. Numbers are restricted to 60 attendees, and places will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

An article published in the Jersey Evening Post on Friday 6 February, featured the Health Minister’s decision to allocate additional funding from a charitable trust for the provision of insulin pumps. This forms part of a potential agreement yet to be signed by the Government and  Diabetes Jersey, to increase further the number of pumps to be allocated this year.

It is envisaged at this time that on signing the Agreement, a joint press release will be made by the parties to it.

In addition to this initiative which has been under discussion for nearly 18 months, Diabetes Jersey is also in discussions with Health & Care on other matters where limited funding would be of benefit.

Massive thanks to Richard Mayo, who will be running the London Marathon on Sunday, 26th April, for Diabetes Jersey (DJ).

This is in recognition of DJ, who generously funded the essential MODY genetic testing at Exeter University Hospital. This testing is to establish if local families, including his own, carry a mutated gene linked to diabetes and has cost DJ an estimated £12,000 so far.

MODY (Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young) is a rare form of Diabetes, different from type 1 and type 2, and runs strongly in families.
