Thank you to the 300 plus Walkers who participated in this years Walk to raise funds for Diabetes Jersey and to those who made a purchase from The Jersey Wonderer along the way. The feedback since received from the participants has been very positive indeed.

As of 21st July, the Jersey Evening Post has received two Nominations for Volunteer/Fundraiser of The Year, each of which relate to the Charity. One of the nominations acknowledges the fundraising undertaken by Collette Labey over a period of 10 years, during which time she has raised over £100,000 for the charity and the other, relates to Flyn and Shea O’Haire who earlier this year raised over £6,000. Next week is National diabetes week (10th to 17th) and Eyecan’s Walk in My Shoes.
Severe sight loss or blindness can be caused by diabetes. Whilst there are specific diabetes related sight conditions, diabetes also increases the likelihood of cataracts or glaucoma.
EYECAN supports Islanders with sight loss, no matter how that sight loss is caused.
Diabetes Jersey supports people with diabetes and raises public awareness of the need for testing. www.diabetesjersey.com
Walk in My Shoes is focusing this year on diabetic retinopathy. Participants will have the chance to learn for themselves about the experience of diabetic sight loss, whilst representatives from Diabetes Jersey and Diabetes Retinal Screening will be on hand to offer preventative, and practical advice. The event is being held at St Martin’s Parish Green on Sunday 26th June.
